Torque limiter with Belleville Spring

Apr 23, 2026

Belleville springs are widely used in torque limiters to generate an axial preload that forces rolling elements (balls or rollers) into precisely machined detents or grooves, ensuring stable and backlash-free torque transmission.

When the preset torque is exceeded, Belleville spring force is overcome, allowing the elements to disengage or shift, instantly interrupting torque transmission.

Once the overload is removed, the system automatically re-engages-ensuring minimal downtime.

The characteristic curve of the disc springs, especially with negative spring rates, enables extremely fast response, high repeatability, and accurate overload protection.
